What are dashboards?

Dashboarding is the practice of visualizing data in an easy-to-comprehend overview. In a dashboard, all information is presented in one or multiple (not too many) panes. A good dashboard is tailored to each individual user, in line with the project or KPIs they are working on.

Modern dashboards require little to no manual work. Although many organizations still produce Excel dashboards on a recurrent base, modern dashboarding tools slowly find their way in many organizations. They are real-time and often offer a certain degree of control via filters and drill-downs, turning dashboards in basic data analysis tools.

There is a huge variety of dashboard software to choose from. What they all have in common is that they are aimed towards the creation and composition of individual visualization widgets.
