Data Mesh

What is a data mesh?

A data mesh is an architectural paradigm with the purpose of enabling analytic capabilities — such as analytics, machine learning, or data services — at scale by unlocking access to a multitude of data sets and tables from a variety of domains.

A data mesh is anachronistic to a centralized and monolithical approach to big data architecture. In this traditional approach, the data is ingested, cleansed, enriched and transformed before being made available in a data warehouse. A data mesh is the answer to the traditional approach’s shortcomings: (1) the ability to process data from multiple and often complex data sources and (2) the long response time to satisfy a data customer’s needs.
